Il TALC è un fillosilicato di magnesio e possiede una struttura lamellare. Viene utilizzato per dare coprenza e protezione, infatti, le lamelle da un punto di vista macroscopico, tendono a disporsi in maniera parallela rispetto alla superficie nella quale vengono applicati, aumentandone le resistenze alla flessione e alla rottura, come se fosse una vera e propria fibra, andando quindi a creare un film protettivo. Essendo molto inerte sia fisicamente che chimicamente, concede al prodotto finito una vera e propria protezione.
